Who You Think You Are vs. Who You Want to Be

From the moment you are born, you start receiving labels. Expectations and standards that are applied to you even before you can figure out who you really are.

From football teams, career expectations, dating skills, intelligence level, we receive a heavy load of external influence that tends to stick like gum. Also, we receive labels associated with our zodiac, numerology, genetics; the famous “I am from this family and this is who we are”, “that is how we do things”, “I am a Virgo so I must be meticulous”.

If you really think of human bodies as vessels to the spirit, to the soul, try to put yourself in that soul for a minute. You, an individualized consciousness decide to have experience here in the 3D material world. I am sure you descend with dreams and ambitions, projects of self-discovery and improvement.

Now imagine, waking up with no memory of that in the body of a little baby, a little child. Confused and overwhelmed by the number of stimuli around you. Learning how to move your body, how to communicate, how to become independent. Absolutely an overwhelming experience.

On the other hand, you have parents giving you negative reinforcements. “Don’t do this! This is not for boys! This is wrong! We don’t do that! Our family has a reputation to sustain! etc, etc, etc…

With so many priorities to handle, many times there is no other choice than open concessions. Give the power and authority to someone else that claims to have more knowledge, more experience. Dare to challenge that! And you may be called a black sheep.

I am not judging why we give away our power, it`s part of life.

The real problem is that such behavior leads to the development of a fake self. A self that was trained as a pet. Conditioned through pleasure & pain. Reward and punishment. It`s not a surprise the number of people with mental health issues, anxiety, depression. People that achieved unimaginable success in careers that give no fulfillment at the soul level. Title, Status, Money, social respect obtained merely by following the conditioning training of pursuing more pleasure and avoiding pain. A fear-based society!

And that is why so many people spend half of their lives trying to understand who they are. Through trial and error, through facing unpleasant situations, knocking in so many wrong doors that one day one may say: Enough! I am really trying to be who everyone wants me to be. But this is leading me nowhere. All I feel is emptiness, insecurity, and loneliness. Who resonates with that?

We live in prisons created by ourselves. Intentionally or not, we undersell ourselves or end up giving our power away. We are a product of our own conscious our unconscious creation, we are what we think, what we feel, what we eat, what we see and hear, what we accept as our truth.

The soul is infinite, unlimited, unmanifested potential expecting for your command.

Try to accept this as truth, and start uncovering your true self. Experiment, be an adventurer, dare to dream of a life where you can be who you are. Follow your passions, your dreams, your enthusiasm.

Be conscious of how Fear and Doubt influence your decisions. Making you follow painful paths or holding you back from your soul fulfillment.

You don’t have to wait for half a life to pass for your to start focusing on your dreams. Don’t take external opinions, suggestions, and impositions so seriously. Be yourself, no matter what. This is your birthright, your divine inheritance.

With love,

Dass Namjot Singh
